Light balloons ‘tower over’ work sites

Intermetal Motor has recently extended its range of mobile lighting systems with balloon lighting. This type of lighting is increasingly being used in road works, but this system can also offer a number of advantages at construction sites.

Balloon lighting actually uses a balloon to uniformly distribute the light from a powerful light source in all directions. This balloon is held in place during use with air blown in by fans, or alternately one can opt for a balloon with a round shape maintained by stiffeners. The advantage of the fan system is that it is very compact when not in use – it can even be packed into a small suitcase. Metal halide lamps ranging from 100 to 5000 watts can be used as a light source.

Safety and comfort

Safety is the most important benefit of using balloon lights. You can look directly at the light source without being blinded. This is a significant advantage during road works, but can also be extremely useful on other types of sites. Balloon lighting also offers greater comfort since the uniform distribution of the light reduces the effect of dark shadows. On the other hand, a lot of light is wasted in directions where it is not required. There are again limitations on the effect in case of indoor sites, due to reflections of the light scattered on walls and ceilings.
